From 18 November 2025, new legal requirements began for all company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) to verify their identity under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency (ECCT) Act 2023.

All existing directors and PSCs must verify their identity with Companies House. Any filings made from 18 November 2025 onwards must have completed the mandatory ID checks, otherwise the filing cannot be submitted.

Any Director, Secretary, or PSC of a Limited company must set up a OneLogin with Companies House.

ID must be verified with Companies House using a photo ID:  

• Biometric passport  
• UK photo driving licence  

You will also need your current address and the year you moved in.  

PLEASE NOTE: This is a personal verification, not a verification of the company. This means even if you are the director of several companies, you only need to do it once. It also means EVERY director, secretary, and PSC of a company must be verified.

How to complete the ID Verification steps & set up OneLogin

Have your proof of identity ready. This is not something we can do for you; however, we can help if you encounter any difficulties.

Step 1: Click the link 👈🏻  to begin: Verify your identity for Companies House

Step 2: Scroll down and click ‘Verify your identity’, then click ‘Go to GOV.UK One Login’.

Step 3: Sign in to your GOV.UK One Login, or click ‘Create your GOV.UK One Login’ if you don’t have one.

Step 4: Enter the email address linked to your Companies House account and follow the prompts.  

Step 5: When you see ‘You’re ready to continue confirming your identity’, click ‘Open GOV.UK ID Check’. If asked whether you already have an ID Check account, select ‘No’.

Step 6: Choose your country, click Continue, and select the type of photo ID you have. You can use:

• Passport
• UK driving licence
• BRP/BRC/FWP

If you don’t have a passport, choose one of the other ID types. If you don’t have any photo ID, you’ll be given an alternative option (such as security questions or completing the check at the Post Office).

Step 7: Choose your device (iPhone/Android), download the GOV.UK ID Check app, then return to the webpage and click ‘Link GOV.UK ID Check’.

Step 8: Open the app and follow the instructions to scan your ID and take a selfie. Once finished, your identity check will be complete.

Step 9: You’ll receive your personal code. Once your verification is complete, you’ll be issued a personal code (11 characters long). This code is your proof of verification and must be used when you act as a director, PSC or file certain documents.
